The Empire Hotel, Subang Jaya aims to be different with its Ramadan buffet this year. The themed “Seenak Citarasa Malaysia” buffet will offer over 60 dishes but the highlight would be the traditional favourites from 13 states.
There will be flags representing 13 states of Malaysia at the buffet to mark the origination of each dish or where it is popular. Thus guests can look forward to a culinary experience of almost a “complete taste of Malaysia” where they will get to sample a specialty from each of the 13 states in one dinner! Traditional dishes from the 13 states include sup gear box (beef shank broth with spices) – Utara Kedah, Briyani Ayam dengan kismis (braised chicken with golden raisin) – Johor, Daging Masak Lemak dengan nangka muda (beef cooked in turmeric gravy with young jackfruit) – Negeri Sembilan, Terong Goreng Berlada dengan ikan bilis (fried eggplant with chilli and anchovies) – Selangor, Ikan Masak Asam Pedas Bunga Kantan (braised fish in tamarind gravy with ginger flower) – Melaka, Rendang Tok – Perak, Gulai Kawah Terengganu dengan kentang (beef curry with potato) – Terengganu, Ikan Patin Masak Lemak Tempoyak (fish cooked with spicy durian gravy) – Pahang, Ayam Bakar Berempah (roasted chicken with roasted malay spices) – Kelantan, Briyani Kambing (mutton cooked in local spices) – Pulau Pinang, Hinava Roe Fish – Sabah, Braised Chicken in Bamboo – Sarawak and Bubur Gandum – Perlis.
I personally thought that highlighting the specialties of each state in this buffet a fabulous idea as it gives Malaysians and non-Malaysians an opportunity to be acquainted with some dishes which they might not be familiar with otherwise. Last but not least, guest will be entertained with daily live performances while they enjoy the buffet during the fasting month. This band surprised me with their skilled renditions of some modern ballads in addition to the ubiquitous traditional tunes. The Seenak Citarasa Malaysia buffet dinner is priced at RM108++ for adults and RM88++ for children and senior citizens. PS: Diners will also stand a chance to win a Hermes watch worth about RM12k by taking part in a contest organized during the period!
